2013 Year In Review...

This year has been a bumpy road for our band of monkeys, and we're happy to say Farewell to 2013 and Welcome to 2014!  Here's a look back at our 2013, via pictures I just grabbed from my Facebook page :)

Our boys think the outdoor ice rink near our home is pretty awesome, even though Dan and I freeze, they are not slowed down.  This is Nikolas (almost 5) and Nathaniel (almost 7) enjoying themselves.

Dan got his first pair of knitted socks, and loves them so much he thinks he needs more.  I ended up knitting him a second pair later in the year.

Showing some team spirit for our BALTIMORE RAVENS, who took it all the way to the SUPER BOWL this year!!  That pretty sparkler on my finger was my Christmas gift from my honey.

Super Bowl Champs celebration at Ravens Stadium, we got to walk on the field, and then enjoyed the energy and excitement in the stands.

Did a bunch of fishing during the Spring and Summer - Dillon and Lucas each caught their very first fish, Nathaniel got a lot of practice at casting and reeling, and Nikolas wouldn't let me take a good picture of him.

We were even able to take a chartered fishing trip in the Chesapeake Bay on evening in August with D&L - we caught tons and tons of fish, perch and blue fish, all of which were DELICIOUS!

Dan caught one biiiig rockfish on that trip, I believe it was a 21", and it was quite tasty too!  We ate fish nonstop for about 3 days after this trip.

Dan graduated from University of Maryland University College with his Master's in Business Administration (MBA, baby!) - I can't find any ceremony pics, but here's our gang in the stadium waiting for the commencement to begin.

Attempted to grow some spaghetti squash in our backyard, and it did well for a while, but the summer was just too dry here to sustain, and we ended up empty.  Looking forward to trying again, though.

Took the boys to do some strawberry picking at Baughers (Westminster MD) - each of them filled a big beach bucket, and we ended up with loads and loads of berries!  Dan made ice cream and a ton of jam with them.

It can be tough corralling 4 boys to be still for a picture, but once in a while they humor me and I'm able to snap a good shot of them all.  This was taken on the wooden train playground at Baughers.

Dillon, our oldest, graduated from 8th grade in June, and started high school in Sept.  Not sure where the time has gone!  He turned 15 in Sept.

We took our first summer vacation as a family of six, to Chincoteague Island, VA.  This little cottage sure was fun, but next time we need more space!

Nathaniel caught some waves, but the water was very chilly!  We lucked out with great weather for all but one day of our week at the beach.

Lucas and I tracked down the yarn shop on Chincoteague (Carodan Farm Wool Shop), where he asked me to buy some striping yarn to knit him a pair of socks...and six months later, I'm not done those socks yet, ooops!

Dillon found the Tardis at a cool restaurant named Woody's (In CI, VA) that we all enjoyed - they have the best corn fritters ever!  There's a place across the street that had delicious fried pickles, too.  Obviously we don't eat too healthily while on vacation.

I did some knitting, I'm sure you're surprised!  This is a waffle ribbed scarf.  I'll do a Knitting Year In Review soon also.

Lucas (10) and Dillon (14) enjoyed fireworks in our front yard on the Fourth of July.

Lucas has been growing his hair out for a while, and I just love this shot of him in his shades at the beach.  He's got gorgeous natural highlights, too, lucky kid!

Lucas's father, half-sister, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousin came to visit from Illinois for the weekend.  They had a blast at the hotel pool, the Maryland Renn Fest, and a visit to Washington DC.

And Lucas started fifth grade - top of the school!  He's enjoying his second year of viola lessons, and really likes being among the oldest students there.

Dan and I traveled to Orlando FL for a long weekend, to celebrate my BFF's wedding in September.  Autumn and I have known each other for far longer than either of us will admit to!  I taught Dan to knit while we were there...one day, he'll finish a scarf for me!

We became a minivan family this year!  Woohoo, no more taking two cars when we all go somewhere together!  She's a shiny white Honda Odyssey that I named Bella, and makes things so much easier for us!

Had some fabulous sushi at one of our favorite local places, The Fortune Cookie.  We like just about anything with spicy tuna, avocado, eel, and shrimp!

Did some more knitting, this time while trailing behind the kids doing the Main Street Trick or Treat event downtown.  That's the first in a pair of socks for Lucas, which I finished between Christmas and New Years.

Pumpkin Patch!  Took the boys to Papa John's in GB on a gorgeously sunny Saturday in October, and snapped this great shot of a very smiley Nathaniel (7).  We took home numerous mini pumpkins, three big ones for carving, and a pretty mum for the porch.

One more good shot of all the boys together - after all our birthdays this year, Dillon is 15, Nikolas is 5, Nathaniel is 7, and Lucas is 11.

And Dan and I celebrated both of our 35th birthdays this year - which I refuse to acknowledge!  This cake that my Mom made for my day was delish, strawberry cake and pink lemonade frosting, which may sound unusual, but it was a great strawberry-lemonade flavor.

More knitting!  I spend months knitting various cowls and scarves for the ladies in my family for Christmas gifts, and laid them out for the girls to choose their own.  It was really nice stress-free gift knitting, because I wasn't knitting anything for a specific person, I could knit whatever pattern and yarn appealed to me at the time, and the gifts just piled up.  I told the family that next year, I'll be doing the same thing for the men with hats and maybe scarves.

I got a major haircut just before Christmas, leaving 8-12" of hair (had lots of layers) on the stylist's floor, and am really enjoying this new look.

And lastly, we got our first family Christmas ornament today (New Years Day 2014) - Dan pointed out how perfect it was, knitted mittens for the knitter :)

Happy 2014 to all!
We wish you love, laughter, and lots of knitting time!
