August's Finishitis....maybe?

Well it's slow going around here! Not a lot of knitting time this month, but Ive been quite good about not starting anything new - the only new project is the birthday cardi for my friend's daughter Lauren. As I'm writing this entry, it's 11:20pm on a Friday, and her party is at 1pm on Sunday. Fingers crossed that I can get it all done in time! The yarn is a big skein of Lion Brand fishermans wool that I dyed at least 2 years ago in many shades of green. That's a 12' hank of yarn there!

My older son started 6th grade this week, and younger son starts 2nd grade next week. We're getting back into the swing of things for the school year, which is complicated by lots of soccer practices. Dillon turns 12 in a few weeks, and has only asked for 2 things for his birthday - a new bike (his old one is quite small for him now) and for me to knit him more socks. Unfortunately since he goes to a private school with a uniform code, he cannot wear them to school, but I'll do my best to get them knitted up for him to wear at home and on the weekends. We've been enjoying the Ravens' pre-season games, and it's been very tempting to start knitting stuff in purple and black!! I've got yarns in my stash for hats for the kids, and socks for both me and the kids in Ravens' colors. Must resist!!

My July socks are finished, and a week late of course! You'd think since I used sport-weight yarn that might have helped me finish on time, lol! The pattern I used is called Pillars, though I knitted these socks toe-up, and just used the lace chart from the pattern. Yarn is KnitPicks Stroll Sport in Stream Heather. Very soft yarn, but extremely splitty to knit - maybe that's what took so long! Used all but a few feet of the 2 balls of yarn, which taught me that I should buy *three* balls of yarn when it's sport-weight for socks from now on. I did just that yesterday when i placed a KnitPicks order, actually! Several colors of Felici are heading my way as I type! :)

Ok, off to do some more knitting! My hands need a break from size 9 needles - anyone else knit mostly socks, and find that your hands are just used to size 0s and 1s, and they don't much like to use anything bigger than a 4? Will knit on some socks for a bit while catching up on one of my favorite podcasts - The Knitmore Girls!

Happy weekend!

I've never seen 12' of yarn before...it's amazing. Can't wait to see what you make out of it.
