With the ending of the year, it's time to look back on things and regroup, so I'm starting with knitting, because it's so much more fun, lol. It's been interesting the last few days to go through my stash and projects and see how much they've "evolved" in these 12 short months. Last year for Christmas, my brother Joe gave me one of those Pattern-a-Day calendars, which was great. I went through the whole thing early in January, putting tabs on the patterns I was interested in making. Then, with the uproar and confusion of rearranging many things in our house, the calendar got packed away to be rediscovered early in December. I looked through it again recently, and was surprised at some of the patterns that I loved then that just do not interest me now, and all the patterns that I really like now but were not marked off as favorites. Moving beyond my mainstay of dishcloth-knitting has done me a world of good, and the improvement in my technique and output makes me so proud. Keep in mind that I've been knitting for only about two years now.Last year I made a list of knitting resolutions, which was more of a knitting to - do list, so here's a rundown of how I did with those goals.
- Knit things other than dishcloths. Yeah, they're fast and cheap and small and portable, but my wool stash is missing me. - I did! 31 socks, 8 hats, 2 scarves, 2 baby gifts, 7 bags, 4 bowls, 1 blanket, and more!
- Make a bag with stripes, probably felted. - I did! I made two striped Sophie bags, and a striped Dumpling bag.
- Finish Dillon's hooded sweater. Started it in July, as of right now it just needs sleeves and blocking. Get it done before the poor kid outgrows it already! - Nope, still not done. Just sleeves left to do, which are currently on needles.
- Knit something for myself - a sweater/cardigan, probably in a chocolatey brown color. - I knit plenty of things for myself, but haven't done a sweater yet, despite having sweater-quantities of several yarns with that in mind.
- SOCKS. Just do it already. - Oh yeah, I did it! Not only did I learn to knit socks, but I knit LOTS of socks. Socks for me, both my sons, my sister, my mom, my grandma, and most recently for my boyfriend - size 11 mens which was quite a triumph of stick-to-it-iveness for me!
- Don't stop knitting dishcloths altogether - my cotton yarn stash is ridiculously large, and needs to be reduced by some means. - I did knit 18 cloths this year, several scrubbies/tribbles, and one hand cloth.
- Get Dillon knitting. With needles. Start with finger-knitting, he'll like it. Get rid of those damned knitting looms! - This is still a work in progress. With him being a lefty and me being a righty, plus the lack of patience on both sides, it's a challenge. I did get rid of all the looms but one.
- Knit myself a shawl. Nothing fancy or lacy, but I'm itching to make myself a triangular shawl. - I'd still like to do this, especially a Clapotis, but haven't so far.
All in all, I did pretty well. Now off to make my list for 2009!

well, i'm impressed! you've accomplished much more than i have this year, especially in learning new things. i tend to shy away from that, but you've pushed me in directions that i never would have gone (at least not at this stage of my knitting career) just in the short time i've known you... and for that, i thank you!
can't wait to see what we do in 2009!!
