Finishing!

It occurred to me as I was writing up my 52pp recap post that I have a few finished objects to show here. So here goes - the first is a hat I made based on a stitch pattern from a pair of socks that I haven't yet finished. I love love love the cables, but was frustrated with the lack of stretch on the socks, so I set the sock aside and used the cable on the hat. It fits nicely, but if/when I make it again, I will increase more after the ribbing to make it a bit more beret-ish. Yarn is KnitPicks Swish DK in Amethyst Heather, it took about 1 3/4 balls.

The other FO is a pair of socks for Dillon, my 11 1/2 year old son. This child has been impossible to make socks for, because I swear he outgrows them before they come off the needles! And while his little brother, Lucas, is thrilled to get the socks, I always felt badly that I couldn't seem to make Dillon socks that would fit. Well Hallelujah, but Socks From The Toe Up by Wendy D. Johnson saved the day!! While I'd made toe-up socks before, I'd never loved the process, and hadn't actually thought of doing it for Dillon's socks. I gave it a try though, with some great Regia 6ply that I bought from a fellow Raveler, and what do you know, SUCCESS at last!! They fit great, were fun to knit, and since I hear that this yarn wears like iron, should still be going strong even once Dillon hands them down to Lucas in a year or so.
