They never told me...

I swear, no one ever told me how completely addictive sock yarn is! I can't stop browsing it online, although I'm getting a little better with my impulse-buying. But it's so easy. It's not like a great worsted or DK weight, I don't have to stand there in the store (or stare at it on screen at home) wracking my brain to think of what I could make with it, and how much of it I might need. Sock yarn is easy - I'm going to make socks. 100g is enough for just about any adult-size pair of socks. It may be too easy, but it's perfect. I can totally understand why knitters will say that sock yarn "doesn't count" - you don't have to hunt up a great pattern. You can hunt up a pattern, but you can also knit plain socks. There are so many choices, yet there's always the simpleness of a ribbed sock if you can't decide. It is completely perfect for me - indecisive, hoarding, yarn-crazy little me.

And as such, here are some cute yarns that arrived this weekend; Cascade Sassy Stripes from Alpaca Direct. They only had 4 of the colors in stock, but the price was wonderful. You know me and stripes - we're the perfect pair. :)

I'm upset with my Lifestyle socks now. It was stupid of me to not bother trying them on until after I'd finished the heel gussets, but I'm still denying any blame here - it's all the socks fault. The yarn is wonderful, and so funky, feels great and is patterning out so cool. But they're too small - I had to fight them over my heels, and the ribbing leg is shorter than I'd have wanted it. Duh? Right now I cannot look at them, so they're hibernating in a drawer, but I'm not sure if I'm going to frog them and start over, or put them on waste yarn and see if anyone I know who would want to finish the socks for themself. But, if you have narrow, dainty feet and are interested, feel free to contact me. :)

The Jitterbug socks are cruising along nicely - the heel gussets are done, now it's just straight stockinette down to the toes. I wear a size 9.5/10, so it will take a while. They fit well though, so I'm hopeful for these to be a great pair of socks. I'm sad though, because I bought a set of sock decrease stitch markers on Etsy (this seller is wonderful, I just love her stuff!), and have had them a week, and already misplaced one of them. Luckily I lost it after I was done with the decreases.

I tried a pair of socks on 2-circs for a while this week, and really did not like it. Too many needle ends to keep track of, and once I started knitting onto the wrong end, I knew I'd never like that method. Back to magic looping on 32 and 40 inch needles for me. I'm glad I tried the 2-circ way though. Next I'm going to try a sock on DPNs, as I got the nickel sock set from KnitPicks this month. I'm trying hard not to dislike that method before I even try it, but it's hard when I have such issues with attention span, and the two-at-a-time is seeming so perfect for me.

Oh, and the plain black sock yarn arrived yesterday from Janessa! It will be put to good use, finishing the socks I started for Dillon (my 9yr old son), knit with the funky Trekking yarn that she sent me a while back. I literally ran out of the yarn 2 rounds before the toe decreases, so at least it will sort of look like I did the black toes on purpose. :) This is what they look like right now; hopefully I'll get them done this week.
