Oh the excitement

Today I'm putting together the match lists for the third KAL swap. It's a smaller one this time around, as I announced plans for a big holiday themed swap, and a lot of people decided to wait for that one in late October. So it's easy going, and I simplified it last time by just posting a list of matches on the board, rather than PMing each person individually with their info. I just mailed off some destashed yarn that other Ravelers bought from me, and am going to sit down in a few minutes to finish off the first of the Decade socks.

Decade socks: While I really liked this yarn in the shop (All About Yarn in Columbia, MD) and in finished projects on Rav, the way it pools on a kid-sized sock is just UGH. But, Dillon chose the yarn himself, so I'm plowing through. His birthday is next Thursday, and I have the second sock, and 2 sweater sleeves yet to be completed, in addition to the hoodie I was thinking of sewing for him - although that seems a bit redundant when the sweater I'm finishing has a hood also. The mama-made birthday hoodie is a grand tradition around here, so I think he'd be disappointed not to get one. Plus he's asked for a replay of last year's number t-shirt, so that's another thing on Mom's to-do list for the next week. In order to sew anything, I'll have to somehow find my way to my sewing area, which at last glance looked a bit like this:

Why yes, there are three sewing machines under there, what makes you ask??

It does look slightly better than this, as the yarn and school supply containers have been cleared out, and I've been working on a major fabric-stash-reduction over the last few weeks. But it's still a mess, so my line of thinking is saying to unearth the sewing machine and serger and bring them upstairs to safer territories to sew. Don't you love my cute little yellow sewing room vacuum? Since I no longer have a carpeted sewing room, it's turned out to be perfect for when my kids want to help cleaning - we take advantage of their volunteered slave labor as much as possible!

Two bits of loveliness came in yesterday's mail; a skein of Vesper in Muddy waters, and a skein of PandaToes in Purple Rain. I've been wanting to try a bamboo-blend yarn for a while, and came across this gorgeous color on Crazy Monkey Creations' Etsy shop. And the Vesper, oh yum - I just adore stripes, and KT's colorways are awesome; like the bamboo, I'd been wanting to get my hands on some for quite some time, and I was lucky to find this yarn in someone's Rav stash and convinced her that it would prefer to reside in my sock drawer.

An addition to yesterday's entry - apparently great minds think alike and all that, because check this out. I was looking through to see if there are any other colorways of this yarn that I like when knitted up, and lo and behold, my exact plan. :)

i don't know... i like the pooling on the kiddo socks. of course, i've not knit any myself yet, so maybe once i am more involved in the process, i'll understand your aggravation.

anyway, love the idea of the number shirt for the birthdays... my kids would probably love that, so i might have to modify it to my talents and see what i can come up with... i'll let you know. ;)
