Weekend knitting

After putting the helmet liner aside out of sheer ribbed boredom, I started a scarf for myself, knit long-ways from striping yarn. It was awful. I spent too many hours on it, thinking it would start to look better after another inch. I got about 3 inches of 240-stitch scarf done before I frogged the whole thing. Then I ignored it for a day, and re-caston going short-ways, and knitting in ribbing. Oye. It would seem that I'm a glutton for punishment here, or at least a glutton for ridicule. It's 4x4 rib this time, and it's striping up very nicely.

I spent the better part of this afternoon trying to cram my yarn stash into an old dresser that I naively assumed would contain it all. My yarn stash did not wish to be contained. The dresser is now holding all of my cotton yarn, my dye blank yarns, and my pitiful stash of sock yarns. This is silly because I've yet to knit a sock, and I possess a stash of sock yarns. Don't laugh, it had 6 balls in it. And 2 of them are dye blanks. Anyway, all of my wool and wool blend yarns (which are sadly outnumbered by the cottons, I'm sorry to say) are now residing patiently on my bookshelf until I get the other dresser to fit into the limited floor space in there.

Because of this, I have now joined a Rav group called Stash Knit Down 2008. This certainly does not mean that I will be going on a yarn diet in any way, but it's a good starting point. I'm already inspired by reading the message board postings, and spending so much time going through my stash today has reminded me of all the great plans I have for the yarn that takes up a large portion of my bedroom storage space. Like that Click blend that's supposed to one day become a Pinwheel Blanket, the Noro that has no purpose other than to be perty, the wool-bamboo that wants to be my new mittens, the endless Universal blends that are destined to be hats, the wools for Helmet liners, the scarf yarns, and let's not forget about the sock yarns. The drawers full of cotton yarn need a blog entry all to themselves, it's just that extensive (read - ridiculous).

Ok, it's after 8pm on a "school night" and the natives are getting restless (read - my kids are starting to destroy the house), so I'd best be going. :)
